Every tournament match is decided the same way as a regular Two-Player Challenge: both players trade the same anonymous historical stock chart, and the player who finishes with the higher return wins the match and advances. Here is a complete breakdown of how scoring and tie-breaking work.
How a Match Is Decided
When a tournament round begins, both players in each match are sent to the same anonymous chart. Each player starts with a $500,000 virtual Challenge account balance. When the round timer expires, both players' positions are automatically closed at the current price, and the platform compares their ending balances.
The player with the higher profit and loss (PnL) at the end of the match wins and advances to the next round. The other player is eliminated.
Tiebreaker Rules
If both players finish with identical PnL, the match does not automatically go to a replay. The platform works through a tiebreaker sequence first:
- Percentage of profitable trades. The player who closed a higher percentage of their individual trades at a profit wins.
- Total number of trades. If the profitable trade percentage is also identical, the player who placed more trades wins.
- Replay. If all of the above are still tied — including if neither player placed any trades — the match goes to a replay on a new chart.
Replay Rules
Replays follow different limits depending on which round you are in:
- All rounds except the final: One replay is allowed. If the replay also ends in a tie, the platform selects a winner randomly.
- The final match: Up to two replays are allowed (three games total). If all replays end in a tie, the tournament ends as a draw — both finalists share the runner-up result and there is no declared winner.
Byes
If the number of registered players does not fill the bracket perfectly, some players may receive a bye — an automatic advancement to the next round without playing a match. Byes are assigned at random during bracket seeding.
3rd Place Determination
There is no separate 3rd place match. Instead, 3rd place is determined by comparing the two semifinal losers' performance in their respective semifinal matches. The same tiebreaker sequence applies. If their performance cannot be separated after all tiebreakers, 3rd place is selected randomly.
Disconnection During a Match
If a player disconnects during a match, they have 60 seconds to reconnect. If they do not reconnect within that window, the match is forfeited and their opponent advances automatically.
