Tournament Rules and Eligibility

Tournament Rules and Eligibility

This article covers the complete rules for participating in Trading Blitz tournaments, including eligibility requirements, conduct during matches, bracket rules, and prize restrictions.

Who Can Enter a Tournament

Trading Blitz tournaments are open to all registered members with the following requirements:

  • Solo balance of at least $75,000. Your virtual Solo balance must be at or above $75,000 to register for any tournament. If your balance is below this threshold, build it back up through Solo Mode before registering.
  • Not currently in an active Challenge match. You cannot register for a tournament while you are in the middle of a Two-Player Challenge or have an open challenge room waiting for an opponent.
  • Not already in another active tournament. You can only be registered in one tournament at a time.
  • Agreement to Tournament Terms of Service. You must check the Terms of Service box when registering.

Registering for a Tournament

Tournaments are listed at tradingblitz.com/tournaments. To register:

  1. Find a tournament with status Upcoming or Open (Waiting Room).
  2. Click Register and agree to the Terms of Service.
  3. You will be taken to the waiting room. Stay on the waiting room page until the tournament starts — you will be redirected to the bracket automatically.

If a waiting room is already open when you visit the page, you will be registered automatically upon entering the waiting room.

Spots are first-come, first-served. If more players register than the bracket holds, the earliest registrants receive bracket spots. Players who registered but did not make it into the bracket will be notified and redirected.

During a Tournament Match

  • Each match is played on the same anonymous historical stock chart as your opponent.
  • Both players are given a $500,000 virtual Challenge balance for the match — separate from your Solo balance.
  • The match timer is set by the tournament organizer (or by platform defaults for automated tournaments). Automated tournaments use the platform's default round duration.
  • No entry fee or Solo balance wager is deducted for tournament matches. Your Solo balance is not affected by tournament match outcomes.
  • If you disconnect during a match, you have 60 seconds to reconnect. If you do not reconnect in time, you forfeit the match and your opponent advances.
  • All positions are automatically closed when the timer expires.

Bracket and Advancement Rules

  • Format is single-elimination. One loss and you are out.
  • Players are randomly seeded within the bracket after registration closes.
  • Bracket sizes: 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, or 256 players. If registration does not reach the intended bracket size, the bracket downsizes to the next valid size (minimum fill threshold: 75% of bracket size).
  • Byes are assigned randomly when the player count does not divide evenly into matches.
  • Round advancement is automatic — you will receive a match notification when your next round begins.
  • 3rd place is decided by comparing the two semifinal losers' performance in their respective semifinal matches. There is no separate 3rd place match.

Tiebreaker Rules

If two players finish a match with identical PnL, the following sequence applies:

  1. Higher percentage of profitable trades wins.
  2. If still tied, more total trades wins.
  3. If still tied, the match goes to a replay on a new chart.
  4. Non-final matches replay once; if still tied, winner is selected randomly.
  5. The final match replays up to twice; if all replays end in a tie, the tournament ends as a draw.

Prize Eligibility and Geographic Restrictions

All traders are welcome to compete in any tournament regardless of location. However, due to legal and regulatory requirements, players from certain jurisdictions are not eligible to receive cash prizes.

Prize eligibility is determined automatically based on your IP address at the time you register for a tournament. Players from restricted jurisdictions will be clearly marked on the bracket. Ineligible players can still win a tournament and will be recognized as the winner — they simply cannot claim a cash prize.

Restricted jurisdictions include certain U.S. states and a number of international countries. This list is maintained by Trading Blitz and may be updated as regulations change.

Prize Claim Requirements

Prize-eligible winners must complete the following before a cash prize can be disbursed:

  1. Complete Stripe Identity verification (government-issued photo ID required).
  2. Submit a completed W-9 (U.S. residents) or W-8BEN (international) tax document.
  3. Provide a PayPal email address for payment.

All three steps must be completed and approved before prizes are paid. Please allow up to 48 hours for disbursement once all requirements are met. See the full prize claim guide.

Leaving a Tournament

You may leave a tournament while it is in the waiting room. Once the tournament has started and the bracket has been seeded, you cannot withdraw. If you stop participating after the tournament begins, your matches will be forfeited and your opponent will advance.
